Yes all day you can. However, the 16g post is thinner than the 14g. Downsizing is not an issue unless you’ve got a large collection of 14g jewelry that you wish to wear again. Downsizing to 16g is safe as long as it is healed.
Can you put a 18g earring in an 16g hole?
yes you can. When learning about piercings sizes you will know that the bigger the number the smaller the gauge of the piercing so yes you may use an 18g. the 18g is smaller than the 16g. Just be aware though that sometimes user smaller jewelry could cause your jewelry to get accustomed to that size.
What is bigger 12 or 14 gauge piercing?
When discussing gauges, references to a “larger gauge” means bigger around, not a bigger number. That is to say that if you’re told that you need a larger gauge than 14, you need to look at 12 or 10 which are wider, not at 16.

What is bigger a 20 or 18 gauge?
The higher the number, the smaller the gauge. If your piercing is a 18 gauge then the 20 gauge would be slightly smaller.
Is 14g or 16g better for septum?
There’s almost no difference between 14g and 16g and going between the 2 sizes once your healed shouldn’t honestly be too much of an issue. 16g jewelry is usually cheaper especially when you get into BVLA gold clickers and what not.
Can I put a 14g in a 12g piercing?
As for going from 12g to 14g for nipples, it’s fine. 14g is stable as well, but your piercing fistulas will shrink around the jewelry so you’ll have to stretch if you ever plan on going back up to 12g.
