If you try and take your own earrings into a Claire’s, they will not let you use them. The starter earrings are very sharp at the ends and come in special containers meant to go into the piercing gun. If you go to a studio, you can take in some earrings that are implant grade, titanium, stainless steel, etc.
Why is using a piercing gun bad?
Most piercing guns aggressively force blunt ended studs through the tissue of your ears which is painful and unnatural, and can cause serious damage. This process simply forces the stud through your ear, wedging the jewelry between irritated and now-inflamed skin.
Do Claire’s Pierce noses with a gun?
never never never NEVER EVER get anything pierced at a claires or hair salon or anywhere that is not a professional tatoo or piercing parlor and that will use a piercing gun. They are not hygienic place and they use un hygienic equipment.

Are Claire’s earrings good?
No, nothing Claire’s sells is high-quality. Your piercer can put in custom orders for you if their stock isn’t enough for you – alternatively, bodyartforms sells high-quality brands (but also some crap, so be careful – see the sticked post here for a list of reputable brands).
Can I get a hoop when I pierce my nose?
You can choose either a stud or a hoop as your initial jewelry, but the hoop will cause the piercing to heal with a slight curve, so it’s recommended that you start with a nose stud. You can always switch to a hoop later.
Can I change my earrings after 3 weeks?
Some people can change their earrings after 3 weeks without feeling any pain, meaning their piercing wound has recovered. However, others may change their earrings within the same time frame and start bleeding. As stated above, different people heal within different time frames.

It turns out, piercing guns are unsanitary and apply too much force to the ear. Every Claire’s I’ve ever gone to uses one. You want to use a sterile needle which has been put through intense heat for cleaning purposes. If you were to put a piercing gun through such heat, it would melt.
