How deep should a tattoo needle be?
Most modern tattoo parlors and artists use a tattoo machine, or “gun,” to inject the colored inks rapidly into the skin. A conscientious and qualified tattoo artist will work to keep the needle to a consistent depth of about 1/16th of an inch, or no deeper than the third layer of skin.
What are round shader needles used for?
RS or round shader are used for shading. Flats are used for areas with geometric shapes and shading. Weaved magnums are used for shading, blending and coloring large areas.

For example, a 3RL would be 3 needle points, and a 9MS would be 9 needle points. The smaller the number, the smaller the mark. A 1rl is the smallest needle available, but can be hard to work with. In our kits, 3rl is the smallest needle in our kits.
How do you fill a tattoo needle with ink?
Place the appropriate amount of ink in a disposable cup. In the cup mix the ink with a sterile stirring stick to ensure consistency. Dip your running gun into the ink well and let the ink fill the reservoir of your needle tube tip your now ready to apply some ink.
